Mabel J. Smith, 88, of Gibbon died Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at Good Samaritan Center in Gibbon. Mabel was born June 5, 1923, near Eureka, Kan., to Arthur L. and Lettie Guisinger.

On March 26, 1947, she married Lorance Smith in Howard, Kan. He preceded her in death.

Survivors are:sister, Hazel McDonald of Eureka; brother, Warren Guisinger of Gridley, Kan.; grandsons, Mark Clabaugh of Shelton and Jesse Brown of Plattsmouth and a host of relatives and friends

Mabel grew up southeast of Eureka in the Union Community. She attended Union Hallet and Burkton grade schools and graduated from Tonovay High School.

In 1950, she and Lorance moved to Kearney. After their children finished high school, they moved to Wood River for a short time and then to Shelton.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, Carl; daughter, Judith; and sister, Olive Brown.
