US Congressman. He served in the United States Army during the War of 1812 as a Captain of Cavalry. He was elected to represent Virginia's 3rd Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1815 to 1819. A prominent Professor of Law at the University of Virginia, he founded the Honor System there. He also served as a Virginia State Court Judge. Tucker County, Virginia, is named in his honor.
