William Dee Cunningham, 49, died Sunday morning at his residence, 813 S. Madison St. He had been in ill health since he was stricken with polio Aug. 2, 1949, but his death was unexpected. He was born in Yorktown and moved to Muncie as a boy with his parents, Arthur F. and Elizabeth McKinley Cunningham. He attended Whittier Grade School and Wilson Junior High School and was active in numerous sports. Mr. Cunningham was a bus driver with ABC Coach Lines prior to his illness. One of his major interests was the promotion and encouragement of the use of Salk polio shots.

Mr. Cunningham was a member of the Madison Street Methodist Church, an honorary member of Beta Rho Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, and he was also a member of the Moose Lodge.

Surviving besides his wife, Opal, and his parents, are a daughter, Pam, at home; a sister, Mrs. Alice McGalliard, Muncie; a brother, Marshall Cunningham, also of Muncie; and a nephew, Larry Dee McGalliard, in the Navy.

Services will be held at Madison Street Methodist church at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Gail Davis and the Rev. Howard Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meeks Mortuary after 7 p.m. Monday, all day Tuesday, and until 11 a.m. Wednesday, and at the church an hour before the services. Members of Muncie Fire and Police departments will serve as pallbearers.
