Carl Chesley Bates, 88, Halifax, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2006 in QE2 Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.
Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Carlyle and Blanche Bates (East Stewiacke) Carl served overseas during the Second World War. On his return, he worked for Canada Post until his retirement. Carl belonged to Normandy Veteran�s Association. He was a proud member who once attended a meeting in Scotland. He was a faithful member of Legion No. 142, Fairvie w. He was an ardent church attendee and most of all a devoted husband. He will be missed by family and his many friends.
Surviving are his loving wife, Amy Bates; sisters, Marie Ryan (Eddy), Sydney; Ina Gibbs (Bert), Truro; brother, James Bates (Marg), Truro; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sister, Hazel Hamilton (Ray); brother, Floyd.
Visitation will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m today with Fairview Legion Branch 142 conducting a service at 7 p.m., both in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Funeral service will be held in Fairview United Church, Dutch Village Road, Tuesday, April 11 at 2 p.m. Rev. Heather Hemming officiating. Burial at a later date in Pine Grove Cemetery, East Stewiacke. Family flowers only, donations may be made to QE2 Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
