Funeral services for Paul H. Thompson were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 1997 at the Rock Springs Evangelical Free Church, 125 Firestone Road, Rock Springs. The Rev. Richard P. Carlson conducted the services. Interment was in the Mountain View Cemetery in Rock Springs.

Pallbearers were Troy Thompson, Michael Thompson, Joe Thompson, Robert Thompson, John Thompson, Lance Hager, Cody Thompson and Sam Mortenson.

Honorary pallbearers were Joe Venters, John Strojek, Lewis Townsend, Jay Smith, Don Tremmell and Pat Borzea.

Thompson, 74 of 1314 McKinley Ave., Rock Springs, died at 6:51 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 1997 at his home in Rock Springs. He was a resident of Rock Springs since 1961 and former resident of Farmington, N.M.

He was born Nov. 9, 1922 in Hardesty, Okla., the son of the late Joseph Cicero and Blanche White Thompson. Thompson attended schools in Hardesty and later moved with his family to New Mexico. He graduated from Aztec High School in Aztec, N.M. in May of 1942. He enlisted in the Army Air Force and was in the cadet program at Winthrop College in Rock Hill, N.C. Thompson was a decorated air combat veteran, who served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II in Foggia, Italy.

He married the former Jean Conley in Aztec on Jan. 11, 1948. Thompson moved to Rock Springs with El Paso Products Company to assist in the development of the Patrick Draw oil field. He retired from El Paso in 1981. Thompson later worked as a pipeline superintendent and consultant for Union Pacific Resources for seven years until his retirement in 1988.

He was a member of Rock Springs Evangelical Free Church, Rock Springs Kiwanis Club, Wyoming Wildlife Federation and the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

He was a hunter and outdoors man who hike and watched wildlife.

Survivors include his wife, Jean of Rock Springs; two sons, Dale and Craig Thompson, both of Rock Springs; two daughters, Paula Mortenson of Eugene, ore., and Janna Brown of Rock Springs; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Thompson was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray, Byrl and Neal Thompson and one granddaughter, Amber Joy Thompson who died on June 26, 1989.
