AGED RESIDENT PASSES
AWAY AT DAUGHTER'S HOME
Mrs. Martha Louisa Scoles, 88, one of Tower Hill's oldest residents, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eva Shuster, on Saturday morning af five o'clock, death being due to her advanced age.
Martha Louisa Banning was born in Georgia on May 3, 1843, and departed this life on May 2, 1931, aged 87 yeas, 11 months and 29 days. When three years of age she, with her parents, came to Illinois. On October 12, 1871 she was married to Reuben Scoles. To this union five children were born. Mr. Scoles departed this life on June 28, 1881, leaving Mrs. Scoles with the five children, the oldest being only nine years old and the youngest were twins nine days old. With a mother's love she toiled to keep the home together and earnestly prayed that she might be spared to see her children grown up, of which God granted her request. In the year 1883 she was converted at a little frame church northeast of Cowden, and in a short time was sanctified as a second definite work of grace.
She leaves to mourn their loss four children, Melvin Scoles of Tower Hill, John Scoles of Decatur, Ezra Scoles of Neoga and Eva Shuster of Tower Hill. One son preceded her in death September 16, 1901. She also leaves eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchidlren.
She was wondering a few days ago how long the suffering would last but the suffering has ceased and she is now at rest.
