MCCOLLUM, William H. "Bill:" Funeral Services for William H. "Bill" McCollum will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. McCollum, 78, died Friday, Feb. 16,2001, after a lengthy illness. A lifelong Georgia resident, he was born in Atlanta on June 13, 1922, and moved to Macon in 1957. He served in the Army Medical Corps in World War II and was on duty at Trippler General Hospital in Hawaii during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was awarded the Bronze Star for valor and the Philippine Liberation, Asiatic-Pacific Theater and American Defense ribbons for his service from October 1940 to May 1945. Following the war he worked for 53 years as a salesman for the Atlanta Dental Supply Company.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, the former Anne George Wheat; two children, William W. McCollum of Columbia, Md., and Linda Elizabeth Cantrell of Macon; two stepsons, Larry Wheat of Milledgeville and Ken Wheat of Columbia, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson. His first wife, the former Margie Elizabeth Cook, and a son, Robert Bruce McCollum, preceded him in death. Mr. McCollum was a member of Northside Church, Macon Moose Lodge No. 1455, the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, VFW Post No. 658 and American Legion Post 3.
