Clifton Hill was thrown into a furor of excitement last Sunday morning by a fatal encounter which occurred then and there between Dr. S. H. Blair and Alfred Jones, both residents at Clifton, wherein Dr. Blair was shot to death by Jones. Blair was a physician of good standing, aged about 48 years, and had a wife and son and daughter. Jones is a man about 40 years of age, his wife now having a child some three weeks old. It seems to have been an open secret in the community that a corrupt liaison has existed between Dr. Blair and Mrs. Jones since last summer, though it is not apparent that Jones had any suspicion upon the subject until at or immediately after the birth of a child three weeks ago.
