The following notes were taken from an interview with Francis Marion Cloys by Marion Lee Cloys his grandson in 1924, possibly with some discrepancies. He was 94 years old.
James Cloys ran away from home in Massachusetts at the age of 17. He went to sea and carried on slave trade. On his last trip, pirates robbed him and took his 30 negroes and killed all his crew but him and one other man. He went to Christian County, Kentucky.
