The first time he is seen in the West is shortly after the Civil War and it's in Walla Walla, Walla Walla, Washington Territory. He is being married to a Miss Mahala Koontz by the Justice of the Peace of Walla Walla County. The wedding took place in the home of Mahala's eldest brother, Francis Marion Koontz on 13 March 1874. The wedding document reports that Cyrus was living in Umatilla County.

He spent most of his life in good health living in Morrow County near the town of Lexington. In 1874 Morrow was apart of Umatilla County, Oregon. He was a farmer.

In 1930 he was staying at the Oregon State Veteran Soldiers Home in Roseburg, Douglas County, Oregon. Near the end of his life he was moved to Portland likely because of failing health and the need for better care.
