William W. Cathers III of Doylestown died Sunday afternoon, May 17, 2015. He was 76.

Born in Doylestown, he was the son of the late Maude Holcombe and William W. Cathers Jr.

Bill graduated from Central Bucks High School, Class of 1956.

He married Doris Jones in 1959.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Bill was a career truck driver for the former North Penn Transfer in Lansdale, eventually retiring from UPS in Willow Grove. Following retirement, he enjoyed driving part-time for local owner/operator Tom Bennett and R.L. Smith in Danboro.

Mr. Cathers was a lifetime member of the Doylestown Fire Company. He lived a life of service to his country and community. In addition to serving more than 60 years as a volunteer fire fighter, he was a member of the American Legion, the Knights of the Golden Eagle, and the Fraternal Order of Odd Fellows Lodges, as well as a generous donor to many charities.

Bill’s love for people was evident. Friends and family considered him a professional conversationalist who never met a stranger. He especially enjoyed meeting and talking with friends at both the Doylestown and Plumsteadville Wawas, where he was given the unofficial title of ‘Greeter.’

He loved going places and seeing things. Bill shared his fondness for history and fascination with how things are made with his children, grandchildren, and friends at every opportunity. He was also an avid country and blue grass music fan and NASCAR race fan.

Bill will be missed tremendously by his four children, Brian L. Cathers and his wife, Patti, of Hamburg, Pamela J. Tsang and her husband, Allan, of Virginia, David B. Cathers of Doylestown and Glen R. Cathers and his wife, Alyssa, of Lehighton; his 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brother, C. Harry Cathers; his former wife, Doris; and many nieces and nephews.
