Born on October 4, 1928 in Norwich, he was the son to the late Alexander Shareiko and the late Julia (Kisley) Shareiko. John was a graduate of the automotive program at Brooklyn High School. He entered the service after high school serving admirably in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. John married Phyllis Yanchis on January 3, 1950 in Maryland. She predeceased him. John was employed at United Nuclear in Montville for 25 years as a Core Assembler.
He loved to socialize with family and friends, enjoyed going to the casino, and playing cards. In addition, he was a former member of the VFW Post 10004. A heartfelt thank you to the staff and wonderful nurses of Regency Heights of Danielson for the love and compassion they showed our father.
John is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Michael Toper of Plainfield and Doreen and Larry Discher of IN; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Patricia Shareiko of Brooklyn; grandchildren, Rebecca Filosi, Mark Shareiko, Jr., John Shareiko, Brian Toper, Angela Shareiko, and Christopher Brown; great-grandchildren, Kaylie Filosi, Taylor Filosi, Machist Shareiko; companion, Florence Gritzuk; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brothers, Michael and Alexander Shareiko.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, September 8, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Leffler Funeral Home, 30 N.Main St. Jewett City. The funeral will assemble on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 9:00 AM at Leffler Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, Norwich.
