The proud son of Warren Benson Rackley and Mary Caroline Smith. William was born in the Pendleton District of South Carolina,resided at Dacusville & Pumkintown and Keowee River valley before the civil war. William Benson Rackley enlisted as a private in Co.B, Palmetto Sharpshooters at Pendleton, S. C June 28, 1862 and was captured by the enemy at Knoxville,TN Nov.24 1863, and sent by train to Rock Island, Illinois on Jan.29 1864 held as a prisoner of war. William Benson Rackley married Cythina Cornell whom they had four children together. William Benson Rackley was a principal and a teacher with his beloved wife Cynthia a school teacher as well in the States of Illinois, Oklahoma and Kansas,they were instrumental in establishing Libraries in several States and were well known for their achievements and contributions to many communities through out their life time.
