from The Edna Sun, December 14, 1922:
"Pioneer Labette County Woman Laid to Rest at Edna. Abigail Wright Harris was born in Hendrysburg, Belmont County, Ohio, June 16, 1836, and departed from this life in Coffeyville, Kansas, December 1, 1922. She was the daughter of David Harris and Mary Arick. In 1854, she was united in marriage to Felix G. Martin, and they lived in happy married life for nearly forty-eight years until his death in 1902. To this union, six children were born, four sons and two daughters. In 1873, with her husband and family, she came to Labette County, Kansas, and settled on a farm near the present site of the town of Edna where they lived for seventeen years, and, like all the early pioneers, endured the hardships and privations necessary in transforming the plains of Kansas from the desert into the great state it is now. She was reared in the Presbyterian faith and many years ago became a member of that church. Her five elder children and her husband have preceded her to the Great Beyond, leaving to mourn her loss and cherish her memory her youngest child, David Harris Martin, and his daughter, Frances Eleanor Denison. She was a faithful and loving wife and mother and a true friend. Her happiness was in her family and friends, and her home was her Kingdom. Her work is finished, and she has gone to her reward, and with blessings on her memory which we shall cherish while time for us shall last. We lay her to rest beside her faithful and loving companion of many years. This brief resume of her life is dedicated to her memory by her loving son, David Harris Martin, and his wife, H. Lesley Martin, and their loving child, Frances Eleanor Denison, and her husband, Frank S. Denison. The funeral services were held at the resident of her son, 513 West Fifth Street, Sunday morning at 10 o'clock, and were conducted by the Reverend Arthur B. Miller of the First Presbyterian Church, who delivered an impressive and beautiful address to the assembled friends. Mr. and Mrs. S.F. McClelland and Mr. James Benefiel and Miss Nellie Mehl rendered those soul touching and beautiful sons, "Rock Of Ages" and "Jesus Savior Pilot Me." The pallbearers were Dr. C.E. Grigsby, R.H. Muzzy, Isador Litman, J.M. Wiley, Edward Graham, and George W. Knotts. Internment was made in the family lot in the North Edna Cemetery, and the burial service was conducted by the Reverend West of Edna."
