Julius Hillgardner, Retired Butcher, 84, Dies After Illness

A retired Wichita butcher, Julius E. Hillgardner, 84, died Thursday at Larned, Kan., after an extended illness.

For many years Mr, Hillgardner resided at 1934 Wellington PI.

Mr. Hillgardner was born at Storm Lake, Iowa, May 2, 1872. He came to Wichita from Ottumwa, Iowa, in 1922.

He was employed by Cudahy Packing Co. at the time of his retirement in 1937. When he retired, Mr. Hillgardner's co-workers presented him with a pin in honor of 50 years' service in the meat packing industry.

His wife, Matilda K. Hillgardner died in 1943.

Mr. Hillgardner is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Phil Manning, wife of the state representative and former mayor, 1201 N. River Blvd.; one son, Elmer Ernest Hillgardner, 1934 Wellington Pl.; one brother, Garfield Hillgardner, Kansas City, Kan.; two sisters, Mrs. Effie Horn, Kansas City, and Mildred Gordon, Olathe, Kan.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Broadway Mortuary. The Rev. N. Robert Gill, pastor of Riverside Christian Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in Wichita Park Cemetery.
