Anthropologist and Archaeologist. Max Mallowan was a prominent British archaeologist who excavated sites in Iraq, Syria, and throughout the Near East. While digging at Ur in 1930, he met and then married the famous mystery writer, Agatha Christie. She fell in love with archaeology, assisting on many of Mallowan's digs, and introducing archaeology as a theme in several of her mysteries. For many years Mallowan served as the Director of the British School of Archaeology in Iraq. He became Professor of Western Asiatic Archaeology at the University of London and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. After Christie's death he married archaeologist Barbara Hastings Parker-Mallowan.
