Funeral services for Delma Carrol Burney, 18, scion of pioneer county of Families, were held Monday afternoon at the Center Point Baptist Church. The final rites were conducted by Rev W.S. Bunton, pastor of the church, who was assisted by Rev F.E. Kirchner, Baptist pastor at Center Point, and Rev S.M. Barly, pastor of the Center Point Methodist Church. Burial was in the Center Point Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
The youth died Sunday at 2:10 pm at Kerrville General Hospital from an abscess on the brain. He was brought to the hospital in serious condition four days before his death and had been suffering from a sinus infection for about two weeks.
Delma Carrol Burney was born on April 10, 1923, in Camp Verde. For the past 16 years, he had resided with his parents in Bandera County, just outside the Kerr County boundary. He was a general favorite with youngsters in his home community and was admired by his elders for his many manly qualities. For the past five months, until stricken ill, he had been employed at Duncan Field, San Antonio, as an apprentice aircraft machinist.
The host of sorrowing relatives and friends and the beautiful floral offerings attested to the high esteem in which the young man was held.
Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delma Burney of Bandera; three brothers, Eugene, Gary Mack, and Victor Burney of Bandera; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Burney of Center Point and Mr. and Mrs, A.D. McBryde of Medina and great-grandfather, J.R. Hodges of Center Point.
