Funeral services for J A Jarboe were held at 9 o'clock Friday morning, Oct 19, from Holy Rosary Church in charge of Rev Fr E Connolly. Burial was in St Mary's cemetery at Shelbina with Rev Fr J J O'Connor in charge. Mr Jarboe died Wednesday, October 17, in a hospital in Hannibal.
Serving as pallbearers were five sons-in-law of Mr Jarboe, Charles Kelly, Otis Buckman, Larry Carlson, Clifford Gander and Gerald Montgomery, and a grandson-in-law, K N White. Seven daughters were honorary pallbearers, these including Mrs Charles Kelly, Mrs Otis Buckman, Miss Anna Lou Joarboe, Mrs Larry Carlson, Mrs Della Reams, Mrs Gerald Montgomery, and Mrs Clifford Gander. Mr Jarboe was a member of a pioneer family of the Old Clinton community in Monroe County where his grandparents came from Kentucky and settled on a large farm which was operated with the labor of slaves before the Civil War. This farm remained in the hands of the Jarboe family until the death i 1913 of Joseph M Jarboe, father of J A Jarboe. Mr and Mrs Jarboe moved to Monroe City 18 years ago. Mr Jarboe was the father of nine daughters, all living except one who died in infancy. Only one daughter, Mrs Orville Hagan, of Seguin, Tex. was unable to attend the funeral rites. Those attending from a distance included Mr and Mrs Larry Carlson and son, Monty, of Minneapolis, Minn, Mr and Mrs Gerald Montgomery and children, Jerry, Molly, and Judy, and Mr and Mrs Joe Jarboe and daughter, Rebecca, of St Louis, Mrs Della Jarboe Reams and son, Tommy Dell, of Kirksville, and Miss Anna Lou Jarboe of Bevier.
