Donald C. Bilhorn, 85, of Hendersonville, North Carolina died Friday, August 11, 2006 at the Elizabeth House.


He was born in Kramer, Nebraska to Benjamin and Alby Herget Bilhorn. He was a prior resident of Port Jefferson, New York and had lived in Henderson County, North Carolina for 17 years. Donald was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He received his bachelor of arts degree from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska and a masters from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. He was employed for 33 years by Mather Memorial Hospital, Port Jefferson, New York and retired in 1987.


He was a member of Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church in Hendersonville and a former member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Setauket, New York. He was a member of the Rotary Club for 30 years. Donald was an avid reader and enjoyed golf.


He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Esther Pebler Bilhorn; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Ans Bilhorn of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; daughters and son-in-law, Wynne Lane of Battle Creek, Michigan, Laura and Roger Perlstein of Niskayuna, New York; and five grandchildren.


Funeral services were held August 14 at Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church with burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church, 2606 Chimney Rock Road, Hendersonville, North Carolina 28792, or Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, North Carolina 28731. Shuler Funeral Home of Hendersonville, North Carolina was in charge of the arrangements.
