Robert F. Dykeman, 70, of Great Falls, a retired police detective and Air National Guard veteran, died of natural causes Saturday, Sept. 10, at a local hospital.
Robert was born April 6, 1941, to James and Cecil Lenore (Mock) Dykeman in Great Falls, Mont., where he was raised and educated. After attending the then-College of Great Falls, he joined the Military Police and Air National Guard.
He married Bertha Marie Ward on Feb. 13, 1959, in Fort Benton. and together they had three sons.
He was employed by Ideal Laundry as a young man, and later at School District No. 1 before joining the Great Falls Police Department in September 1971. He worked his way up to the rank of detective before retiring in June 1992.
Robert was a history buff who enjoyed building model airplanes, ships and railroads, as well as dollhouses. He also enjoyed being outside and working in his yard.
He was an incurable jokester whose love and laughter will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, three sons, three sisters, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Barbara Kline, Ethelyn Vieira, Sharon Trowbridge, Janet Thompson and James Dykeman.
