Obituary taken from The Edna Sun, July 5, 1945:
DEATH COMES TO FRANKLIN HENRY PHILLIPS
Franklin Henry Phillips was born at Marseilles, Ohio, Oct. 27, 1857, and departed this life June 28, 1945, having attained the age of 87 years, 8 months and one day.
Mr. Phillips came to Kansas with his parents in 1869 and with the family settled near Greenleaf, Kans. He was married to Matilda Johnson June 17, 1883 at Greenleaf and they moved to the Edna vicinity about 50 years ago, where they made their home until the death of Mrs. Phillps, May 12, 1944. Since that time Mr. Phillips has made his home with his children.
Frank Phillips was one of the most highly respected citizens of Edna. He and his good wife operated the hotel here for a number of years and it was considered one of the best in the country. Their hospitality and good will to everyone made their hotel a very popular place. They owned and sold the hotel three different times. They also operated a rooming house in Coffeyville for some time. Mr. and Mrs. Phillips owned and lived on the farm west of Edna where Frahler Wimmer now lives for several years.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Frank Fahler of rural Coffeyville and Mrs. E. C. Wright of Vandalia, Ill; three sons, Clyde Phillips of Boulder, Colo., Grant and William Phillips of Bartlesville, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. Arvilla Louden, North Lewisburg, Ohio; also 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was laid to rest by the side of his wife in North Edna cemetery. The funeral was at 2:30 Sunday afternoon at the Goodwin Funeral Home. Rev. J. Richard Williams officiated.
