Mary Winnie is a daughter of Isham B. and Martha "Patsey" McCord Hastings Bailey. Her father Isham Bailey (1816-1845) died of typhoid fever while the family was living in Chickasaw County, Mississippi. Mary's mother Martha then married John Baker in 1847, Chickasaw County, Mississippi.

Mary married Zebulon P. Craig February 4, 1866, in Dade County, Missouri. After Zebulon's death she married Mr. John A Swift (some online sites mistakenly list him as "Smith") August 18, 1899. John was born in August of 1836 in North Carolina and was a minister, according to the 1900, Red Oak Township, Lawrence County, MO census. John died in December of 1902.
