Gastonia, NC - Hershel Stowe England, 88, of Gastonia, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Carolina Care Center, Cherryville.
Mr. England was born in York, SC, son of the late Earl M. and Sarah Frances Woods England.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Randy Neil England and brothers, Ray, Neil and J.P. England.
Mr. England served his country in the US Army during WW II serving in Hawaii. He was a member of First Assembly of God since 1952 where he was the head of the church board for many years. He briefly pastored at the Clover Church of God. Mr. England worked many years as chief mechanic with Neal Hawkins Construction and retired from Lithium Corporation in 1984.
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Lorene Deal England; son, Robert Stowe England; brothers and sisters, Odell England McLeod and husband Col. Purdy McLeod, Jr., Marjorie England Huntsinger, Catherine England Strickland and husband Terrill, Bobby England and wife Susan, Jimmy England and wife Brenda, Geraldine England Conner and husband Tony, Martia England Campbell and husband Richard, Betty England Walker and Brenda England Jones and husband Tom.
A visitation will be held 6:00 ~ 8:00 pm, Monday September 12, 2011 at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at the First Assembly of God with Pastor David Scruggs officiating. Interment will follow in Gaston Memorial Park with Military Honors by the US Army Honor Guard, Ft. Bragg, NC.
