Rex Blythe, 74, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, at Darlington Oaks Hospice in Verona after an extended illness. He was born on Sept. 14, 1935, in Lee County to Samuel and Susan Viola Ray Blythe. He was a lifelong resident of Lee County and a Baptist. He served in the U.S. Navy post-Korea and worked for Naval Intelligence as a cryptologist. He worked as a salesman for 20-plus years with American Thread Company and was described as a "sometime" entrepreneur.

Burial with military honors will be at Lee Memorial Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Wright Blythe of Tupelo; one daughter, Lisa B. Scott (J.T.) of Tupelo; one son, Samuel R. Blythe of Memphis; one granddaughter, Lauren B. Scott of Blue Mountain College; one sister, Maye B. Harlow; one brother, Ray Blythe (Martha) of Verona; and a first cousin, Beth Ray Hodges (Clifton).

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Joe Clayton, Clifton Hodges, Paul Wood, Frank Wade, Barry Patton and Tommy Carruth.
