Clytis Pebble Rogers Blackerby

CLARENDON - Clytis Pebble Rogers Blackerby, 89, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with Truman Ledbetter, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Blackerby was born in Eastland County on May 11, 1913, to Raymond R. Rogers Sr. and Martha Elisabeth "Bessie" Rogers. She grew up in Anson. On March 28, 1931, she married Lester Blackerby in Stamford. They moved to Clarendon in December 1980, when both retired. She had worked as a retail clerk, but since her first love was her Lord, followed by her family and the church, she was happiest serving as a pastor's wife.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a brother, Raymond R. "Jack" Rogers Jr.

Survivors include five children, Jerry Roger Blackerby and wife, Billie Ruth, of Quitman, Jackie Dell Ricks and husband, Tommy, of Mineola, and James Lester "Jim" Blackerby and wife, Carolyn, Jo Ann Selvidge and husband, Leonard "Tex," and Beth Walker and husband, Jeff, all of Clarendon; a sister, Mary Jo Hestand of Temple; a brother, James Marvin "Jimmy" Rogers of Lubbock, also a Baptist minister; 21 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be tonight and Friday night at the home of Teresa and Dan Dronzek at 502 Koogle St.
