Anna Kathryn (Butler) Comer, 87, of Shawnee, passed away Sept. 10, 2011.
She was born Dec. 20, 1923, in Mountain View in Kiowa County to Otto C. and Katie (Blieker) Butler. She was raised on a cotton farm with one brother, Charles, and two sisters, Shirley and Freida.
She married G.L. Comer in 1947, and they raised four children together.
She was a loving mother who raised her family with a deep faith in Christ and was an avid Oklahoma University fan who loved all sports. She played basketball at Cowden High School where she graduated valedictorian. After high school, she went to business school in Dallas then worked in accounting for 40 years in Oklahoma City and Shawnee for the following businesses: Severen's Supply, Keton Industries, United Foam and Worthington Pump. After retirement, she spent many joyous years at the farm in Earlsboro, where she enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables.
She was preceded in death by parents; siblings; husband; son, Ron; son-in-law, Ed McGee; and was reunited in heaven the same day with her daughter, Addie Mae Nebgen.
She is survived by her daughter, Anna McGee of Cookson; son, Wylie Comer and wife, Katrina, of Shawnee; son-in-law, Pat Nebgen of Choctaw; daughter-in-law, Betty Minson of Newalla; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren (three more on the way); and two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and a nephew. Her kind spirit will be greatly missed.
Her visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 14, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, at Resthaven Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 16, in Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, located at 5001 E. Highland in Shawnee, with no formal burial services to follow.
