Roger Nelson Davis Sr., 84 of Harrisburg, passed away at 2 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
Roger was born on Nov. 11, 1925, in Harrisburg, to the late Joseph Wilburn and Sarah (Hawkins) Davis. Roger married Marjorie Grimes and she survives in Metropolis.

He was a World War II Navy veteran. He had a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University and attended Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. Roger was a member of the Shawnee Hills Barbershop Quartet. He was a rockhounder and bird watcher. He loved and cared for his pets.

In addition to his wife Marjorie, he is survived by a son, Rush Davis and wife Joanne of Sullivan, Ind.; daughter, Terrie Gordon and husband Roy of Fredericksburg, Va.; daughter, Jo Anna Bilotta and husband Paul, of Saco, Maine; son, Roger Davis Jr. and partner Ron Laurentius, of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter, Carol Brines and husband Doug of Harrisburg; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, stepdaughter, Carla Sounders and husband Mike; stepson, Greg Grounds and wife Deborah; and sister-in-law, Sybil Davis of Galatia.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Davis; and six brothers and sisters, Nina Lea, Dorothy Ann, Kenneth, Champ, John and George.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Dewayne Taylor will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
