Myrtle Currie Avery, age 99 of Glenwood, died Sunday, September 11, 2011.

Mrs. Avery was a native of Laurens County, but lived most of her life in Wheeler County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rollin Elmer Currie and Annie Lou Evans Currie; and her husband, W.D. Avery. She was a lifelong member of Beulah Baptist Church, Wheeler County, where she was a member of the choir and Women's Sunday School Class. She worked in Training Union, Vacation Bible School, and served many years as General Secretary of Sunday School. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her son, Larry Currie Avery, of Glenwood; two grandchildren, Kathy Lynne Avery, Macon, Scott and wife Brandi Avery, Gray; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Taylor Avery and Zachary Scott Avery, all of Gray; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held in Beulah Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2011, with the Rev. Randall Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Sammons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday September 12, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m.
