Gerald Peter "Pete" Irwin was born on August 23, 1927, in Anchorage LA and passed away on July 29, 2011, at his home in San Antonio TX. After spending his early years in southern Louisiana, he moved with his family to Devine TX while he was in high school. After graduation, he went into the Army. Always a spiritual man, he then studied for the priesthood at the Catholic seminary in San Antonio; but, after a few years, his life took a different direction and he entered St. Mary's University where he obtained a Bachelors degree in English and a Masters degree in School Administration. In 1952, he married his wife of 59 years, Margie Bohl Irwin; and they raised a family of five children. After college, he began his career in education; in 1954 he became the Superintendent of Schools of a small district in Windthorst TX. At the time, he was the youngest superintendent in the State of Texas. While there, he initiated the high school football program and served as the first coach. As his family grew, he began to work in sales and worked for a number of pharmaceutical companies. As he closed out his career, he returned to working in education at Healy Murphy and then spent time working with AARP and other community groups after retirement. He was an avid fisherman and spent many enjoyable days down at the Texas coast or Medina Lake with his family and friends doing what he loved.

In addition to his devoted wife Margie, he is survived by his sons Chris Irwin and wife Roxanne, Peter Irwin and wife Laura, and Pat Irwin and wife Kelly; daughters Mary Wilson and husband Cam, and Gina Jarman and husband Bill; and numerous other loving family members and friends.
