OAKMAN~~~~~Velma Lou Barrentine Gant, age 97, of Oakman, died Sept. 7, 2011, at Hospice of West Alabama.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Flatwoods Community Church with Johnny Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Flatwoods Cemetery in Berry with Collins-Burke Funeral Home of Jasper directing. Visitation will be 6 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and one hour prior to services Sunday at the church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carson Barrentine; her second husband, Richard Gant; her son, James Barrentine; her father, Bezalee Earnest; her mother, Mary Francis Earnest; her brothers, Jacob Earnest, Grover Earnest, George Earnest, and an infant brother; her sisters, Martha Gurganus and Minnie Bonner; and her great-grandchildren, Cody Barrentine and Montana Freeman.
Survivors include her daughters, Oleta Bruner and Lynda Wright, both of Oakman; her sons, Lecil Barrentine of Oakman, Wilford Barrentine of Berry, and Carl Barrentine of Jasper; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
