MRS. ERNEST SMITH PASSES TO THE BEYOND
This entire community has been in mourning since Monday morning of this week when it became known that Mrs. Ernest Smith had passes away at an Enid hospital.

About a week previous to her death, she was taken suddenly ill with an attack of appendicitis and on July 4th she was taken from her home at Waukomis to an Enid hospital where an operation was performed. Although hope for her recovery was entertained for several days after the operation, complications set in which caused her death Monday morning July 9th.

The body was brought to Hunter Monday noon and taken to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.W. Benson, where scores of friends gathered to console in what measure they could the broken hearted parents, husband, children, brothers and sisters, and to view the last earthly remains of the one so much loved by all.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by C.A. Rock, pastor. The throng that attended the services, the many beautiful floral offerings and the many who accompanied the body to its last resting place in White cemetery, all attested to the love and regard in which the deceased was held by the people of this community.

OBITUARY

Ethel Viola Benson was born May 27, 1888, in Haven, Reno Co., Kans., and died at Enid, Okla., July 9th, 1917, aged 29 years, 1 month and 11 days. When she was six years of age, her parents moved to a farm two miles north of Hunter, where, two years later, Ethel was converted in that wonderful revival of the old sod church which the early settlers remember so well, and where scores found a personal "Saviour in Jesus Christ." She became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and remained true to God and the church all of her days.

Ethel was the first of five children that came into the home of Brother and Sister O.W. Benson, the rest, except Grace, the 2nd childe who passed away at the age of 3 years, are living still, and are at home.

On August 14, 1906, she was united in marriage to Mr. Earnest Smith, and to this union were born three children, Guy, aged 9, Cecil, aged 6, and Navine, aged 4. In the nearly eleven years of their married life, there was the glory of companionable love and motherly devotion constantly reflected.
