REV. JAMES FLOWERS DIES AFTER PROLONGED ILLNESS
Methodist Minister Came to Kansas in 1882
The Rev. James Flowers, 1612 Polk street, died yesterday afternoon at 1 o'clock. His death was due to heart failure and came after a prolonged period of illness. He leaves a wife, Mrs. Mary Olive Flowers, and a son W. B. Flowers.

The Rev. Mr. Flowers was born in Washington county, Ohio, April 30, 1846. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Union army and served two years in the Seventy-seventh Ohio volunteer infantry, in the south and on the Mexican border. After the war he spent some time in California.

IN 1868 he moved to Iowa with his parents, where he finished his education at the Iowa State college, which was started in the public schools of Ohio. He taught in the public schools of Iowa for several years.

He entered the ministry of the Methodist Episcopal church in 1880. In 1882 he came to Kansas. The year following he joined the Northwest Kansas Methodist Episcopal conference as a charter member. He served as a minister in the conference for thirty-four years at various charges in wester and northwest Kansas. In 1885 he married Miss Mary Olive Henderson of Cawker City.

He retired from the ministry in the spring of 1907 moving at that time to Topeka where he spent his last years. He was a member of the Walnut Grove M. E. church of the G. A. R. and was a Mason.

The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Walnut Grove Methodist church.
