Mrs. Jane E. Bradley, wife of Mr. Lawrence Bradley, died on Saturday night, 7th inst., at the family residence on East Ninth street, between Spring and Market, aged seventy-two years. She had been in ill health for several years, but was not considered in a dangerous condition until a few days before her death. Mrs. Bradley belonged to one of the pioneer families of Floyd county – being the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Leyden, who in the early days of Floyd county settled upon a farm two miles north of New Albany, on the Paoli pike, where they lived until their deaths. Mrs. Bradley was born and reared upon this farm. She was a sister of Miss Martha Leyden and Mr. Isaac P. Leyden, of this city, and Mrs. W. C. DePauw, Los Angeles, Cal., who survive her. She was also a sister of the late Capt. John Leyden, the late Mrs. Augustus Bradley, and the late Miss Harriet Leyden. . . Her death leaves her aged husband and her two surviving children, Mr. Charles Bradley and Mr. Lawrence I. Bradley, in the deepest bereavement. Mr. Lawrence Bradley, her surviving husband, is widely known throughout Southern Indiana as a former wholesale merchant of this city and Louisville, and a former leading manufacturer and backer of New Albany. In the bereavement that has come to him he is assured of the sincere sympathy of his very many personal friends. - New Albany Daily Ledger 09 Jan 1899 [diabetes mellitus]
