Edith O. Weinrich, 90, a former Arlington resident, died Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the Avera Brookings Hospital in Brookings. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Brookings with the Rev. Pam Fitzgerald officiating. Burial is in the Arlington City Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before services in the church on Tuesday. The Johnson-Henry Funeral Chapel of Brookings is in charge of arrangements. Edith O. Lenning was born July 19, 1918, at Bruce to Oscar and Mary (Larson) Lenning. She attended rural school in the Bruce area. On Aug. 14, 1938, she married Kermit Weinrich in Elkton. They farmed near Bruce until 1944. Then they moved to Arlington and farmed until retiring in Arlington in 1983. Edith was a member of First Lutheran Church in Brookings and was a member of the Extension Club for many years. She loved to play cards, bowl and play bingo. Mr. Weinrich died June 25, 2000. She is survived by her two daughters, JoAnne (Bob) Gaard of Brookings; Sheryl (Garry) Wilaby of Des Moines, Iowa, and a son, Ron Weinrich of Brookings; five grandchildren ; six great-grandchildren ; two sisters , Alma Caldwel of Sioux Falls and Doris (Eugene) Glatzel of Brookings; a brother, Vernon (Jean) Lenning of Watertown; a brother-in-law , Frank (Carole) Weinrich of Brookings and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Gladys Gubrud and Lenore Nelson; one brother, Lester Lenning. (Brookings [SD] Register, June 10, 2009)
