Death Claims Mrs. Herbert Wadsworth, Funeral Friday at Avon Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Herbert Wadsworth, nationally known horse woman, died Tuesday at her country estate Ashantee, on the Avon-Geneseo Road. She was 72.

Mrs. Wadsworth had been in ill health since two years ago when she was injured in an automobile accident. Accompanied by Col. N. C. Shiverick, long associated with her husband in the breeding of horses in the Genesee Valley. Mrs. Wadsworth was being driven by her chauffeur to the Saratoga races. The car left the road, killing Col. Shiverick and injuring Mrs. Wadsworth.

Fearless Rider

Born to Missouri, Mrs. Wadsworth was a sister of Susan Blow, famous for her work to the field of kindergarten instruction. She came east at the time of her marriage and spent most of her life in Washington and the Genesee Valley.

Mrs, Wadsworth long was known as a fearless and untiring rider over trail and brush. Even in middle life she set several records for long distance riding, one of which was a trip on horseback from Geneseo to Washington. When a famous group of cross-country riders, including the late President Theodore Roosevelt, each fall used to follow the Genesee hounds. Mrs. Wadsworth vied in the hunting field with the men.

More than 20 years ago Mrs. Wadsworth began a program of breeding experiments to the Genesee Valley. It developed into a large plan executed by the Genesee Valley Breeders Association, an organization, which she formed in conjunction with Col. Shiverick. She was active in the organization until this year when she relinquished the duties of president to Edward D. Mulligan and became honorary president.

Mrs. Wadsworth for years was interested in the administration of Letchworth Park. She was a charter member of the Genesee State Park Commission, and served on this body until he death. She had also been the member of the committee of the American Scenic and Historic and Preservation Society, which at one time administered Letchworth Park for the State of New York.

Her husband, Herbert Wadsworth, who for years owned a large sugar cane plantation in Louisiana, died six years ago. Mrs. Wadsworth is survived by only nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Wadsworth's body will be cremated. The funeral will be conducted in Zion Episcopal Church, Avon, at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Rev. Charles B. Madara, rector of the church officiating.
