William Caleb Best, age 82, of Maryville, passed away Friday evening, February 9, 2007, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was retired from ALCOA and a member of the 25 year club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps having served during World War II. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of Mt. View Masonic Lodge F & AM and member of the Scottish Rite of Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Eula Carpenter Best; grandson, Joshua Ian Carroll; and sister, Zorra Belle Best Springer.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Turner Ownsby Best; son, C.M. and wife Georgia Best of Maryville; daughters, Theresa and husband Tom Finley of Maryville, Ava and husband, Keith Dailey of Smyrna, TN, Mollie and husband Doug Fitch of Kennesaw, GA, and Zora and husband Bryan Trentham of Maryville; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; step-sons, and Neal and wife Teresa Ownsby, and Mark "Bubba" Ownsby all of Maryville; sisters, Ruth Best Webb of Maryville and Lois Best Raines of Youngstown, OH.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Delashmit and Dr. Lay from Blount Memorial Emergency Room, Dr. Ingram, Dr. Cowan, the staff on 2 North, and also the staff of 2 North at Maryville Health Care.
A Masonic service was conducted by the Mt. View Masonic Lodge at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2007, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with the graveside service following, Rev. Edward Adams officiated.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations be made to the Ross Debuty Family (% Friendsville Volunteer Fire Dept., P.O. Box 7, Friendsville, TN 37737).
The family received friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Sherwood Mausoleum Chapel.
