Gilbert Kendall Newman was born in the town of Jefferson, Sept 14, 1867; he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Newman. With the exception of about 4 years spent in the west, he has lived in this section. On Dec 18, 1884 he was married to Miss Frankie Morton, who survives him with three Children, Mrs. Zora Klossner, Kendal and Chadwick, also his mother, six brothers, and two sisters. His last work was fixing up his “Eldorado” farm and building in the most comfortable and convenient way possible but it was not for him to enjoy it long. Following a serious surgical operation, he had two attacks, the began eight weeks ago which terminated in his death Sunday night Dec. 15. His suffering was intense, but he bore it bravely and patiently. Every thing was done to alleviate his suffering by friends and medical aid. He was bapized into the fellowship of the Baptized Church a great many years by his pastor Rev U. K. Patton. The funeral was held Wednesday Dec 18, from the Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Williams. The song service was by Mr. and Mr. D. C. Patton, John Wolgast and Mrs. T. J. Patton with Miss Cara Roderick who presided at the organ. The pall bearers were cousins of Mr. Newman, the interment was in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. [courtesy of Find A Grave Contributor Florence Connors]
