OLD RESIDENT DIES

Stricken With Paralysis, A. J. Franklin Passes Away Without Recovering Consciousness

A. J. Franklin, who has been a resident of Los Angeles for eighteen years, died at his residence, No. 1347 West Adams street, Friday night between 9 and 10 o'clock.

On Wednesday, during the absence of his family, he was stricken with paralysis, and was found unconscious at his home when they returned. Everything possible was done to revive him, but he never recovered consciousness and died as stated.

His death came as a great surprise to his family as he has been a man of vigorous health and on Wednesday morning when last seen was as well as usual. Besides his widow, three children survive him, Julia A., George E. and Arthur J. Franklin.

The deceased was a native of New York, where he was born sixty-three years ago, near Syracuse. Later the family moved to Wisconsin, and in early manhood the deceased came West and went into mining in Nevada. He was prosperous in his ventures, and when he decided to live a less rigorous life came to this city, and went into the grocery business at the corner of Third and Spring streets.

He was at one time a member of the Nevada Legislature, and though always interested in politics, never aspired to any office in this city. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and took a deep interest in the affairs of the order. He was a most companionable gentleman, and was extremely popular with his friends.

Though no church member he was one of the staunchest friends of Grand View Presbyterian Church, of which his widow is a member. The latter, to whom he was married thirty-six years ago, was Miss Martha Hobbs of Lewiston, Ill.

The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at his late residence, No. 1347 West Adams street, and interment will be at Rosedale.
