Murel Donald "Whitey" Bangert, 72, of Litchfield died Tuesday, June 17, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. He was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Wood River, the son of Fred and Della Schulte Bangert. He married Garnett Belle Simpson in 1950 in Carlinville. A daughter, Linda S. Bangert-Tomazzoli, and a son, Bob Bangert Sr., preceded him in death. Mr. Bangert worked as plant supervisor at Spec Stone Co. in Nokomis for several years. He was a member of Operating Engineer Local 520 in Granite City. Survivors: wife, Garnett; two daughters, Vicki (husband, Bob) Corrado and Darla (husband, Wayne, Feldmann, both of Litchfield; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Ervin Bangert of Staunton; and a sister, Irene Sallee of Godfrey. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield, the Rev. Dr. Gary D. Allen officiating. Burial: Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.
