The following is adapted from an un-sourced write-up about him, provided by Findagrave member 'Little Blessings'.

Emery W Burnham was born in Montague, Mass. in 1831 and died Nov. 7, 1905 at the home of his son, Clarence E. Burnham, in Hoboken, N. J..

He came to Michigan with his parents Calvin and Mary Burnham in 1836 and resided in the vicinity of Deerfield about forty years. He was the eldest son of his parents and was reared in the pioneer days of the new county, following farming and merchandize until 1888, when he went east to live near his children.

He was married to Miss Charlotte L. Hemenway, daughter of Jason and Lucretin Hemnnway of Deerfield, Michigan in 1852. Six children were born to them, three of whom were living at time of his death; Elmer, Clarence of Hoboken, N.J., and Mrs. Addie Hesse, of Council Bluffs, Ia. He was also a brother of Edward E Burnham of Deerfield, MI, Marshall Burnham, of Plymouth, MI and Mrs. Maryette Viets, of Dundee, MI.

The remains were accompanied to Deerfield by the widow and son, Elmer.
