Mrs. Roberta J. Leach, 92, of Fair Grove died Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar. She was born Aug. 7, 1919, in Highlandville, the daughter of Johnny and Bessie Hotelling. She lost her parents at the age of 8 and was adopted by Ed and Ida Alford.
She and Hubert Leach were married and to this union, four children, Dorothy, Eddie, Carol and Cindy were born. They made their home west of Fair Grove on a farm that they worked together, milking cows and raising crops.
Roberta was a good example of a Christian woman. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and neighbor.
Roberta lived in a neighborhood where everyone knew everyone, and she enjoyed visiting with them. She was saved when she was 12 and was a faithful member of Union Grove Church south of Tin Town, attending until her health failed. She had laid up many prayers for her children and grandchildren. Her family remembers her walking the fields and praying as she went.
Roberta was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Hubert; her parents; two sisters, Blanche Wilkin and Margarite Presley; and one great-grandson, Tyler Junte.
She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Phillips and husband Chuck of Joplin, Carol Ballou and husband Alan of Springfield and Cindy Williams and husband Lynn of Dunnegan; one son, Eddie Leach and wife Judy of Springfield; two brothers, Harold Alford and wife Mariatta and Gerold Alford and wife Flontine, all of Springfield; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, in Pitts Chapel in Bolivar with Bro. Dewayne Burdette officiating with burial to follow in Union Grove Cemetery in Fair Grove. Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Union Grove Cemetery, 258 State Hwy. 215, Buffalo MO 65622.
