Mr. Anderson was born Nov. 4, 1921, in Rocky Comfort, Mo., to Noah and Susan (Foster) Anderson. He had three brothers, Allen Anderson, Ray Anderson and Jay Anderson, along with two sisters, Jessie Pogue and Jewell Field, all of whom precede him in death.
Mr. Anderson married Ruth Brattin March 19, 1944. Ruth passed away Nov. 6, 1995. Through this marriage they had three sons, Jerry Anderson of Joplin, Mo., John Anderson of Blue Springs, Mo., and Randy Anderson, who is deceased.
Mr. Anderson's second marriage was to Virginia Cole. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; sons, Jerry and John; seven grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and seven step-grandchildren.
Mr. Anderson had been a postal carrier and postmaster for the Rocky Comfort Post Office for over 20 years prior to his retirement. He had graduated in 1940 from the Rocky Comfort High School. He was a deacon and past treasurer of Prosperity Southern Baptist Church in Rocky Comfort prior to the passing of his first wife, Ruth. He enjoyed bowling and was active in bowling leagues. He was also active in working with the Joplin Senior Olympics and several other organizations. Mr. Anderson was a sergeant in the Army Air Force during World War II.
Services were held Monday, June 16, 2003, at 10 a.m. at the Wheaton Funeral Home. Visitation was held Sunday. Burial was at the Rocky Comfort Cemetery. Richard Anderson officiated.
