The wife of Thomas Davis. Thomas arrived in the Boise area in 1862 with other gold miners. Seeing a need for fresh produce in the mining camps, he soon gave up mining for farming. He grew vegetables and planted 7,000 apple trees. Tom’s orchard was well established when Julia arrived in 1869 from Ontario, Canada, to visit relatives. When they met, Tom was considered the wealthiest man in the region.
Julia has been memorialized in the park with a bronze statue depicting her offering an apple to a young girl. Julia was known for her kindness and generosity, which may have ultimately resulted in her death. She died in the fall of 1907 after assisting a traveler who may have had typhoid fever.
