Marie Bentley, 83, a home-maker, died yesterday at her Pacific Grove home.
She was born in St. Jorge, Azores Island, Portugal, on July 13, 1908, and had been a resident of Pacific Grove for more than 60 years.
Retired from the Hovden Cannery, she was a member of St. Angela's Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the Portuguese organizations FDES and UPEC.
She is survived by a son, William Bettencourt of Los Banos; a daughter, Marie Merryman of McAllen, Texas; two brothers, Manuel Bettencourt of Santa Cruz and John Bettencourt of Hilmar; three sisters, Eugenia Brazil of Santa Cruz, Guimar Lewis of Turlock and Rose Murray of Seattle, Wash.; six grandchildren: six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The rosary will be recited tomorrow at 7 p.m. at St. Angela's Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Mission Memorial Park. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
