Leonard Kelley, born Sept. 11th., 1874, in Harrison county, Missouri, departed this life February 27, 1939, in Kensington, Kansas, at the age of 64 years, 5 months, 16 days.
..He was the son of Phillip and Martha Kelley, having one brother and four sisters; one sister and brother having preceded him in death. The surviving members of his own family, are Mrs. Leona Osbourne of Phoenix, Arizona; Mrs. Alice Faith of Monte Valley, Mo.; and Mrs. Belle Pickrell of Alberta, Canada.
..He was married to Myrtle Sallee in Vernon county, Missouri, August 1, 1899, and to this union was born four daughters: Hazel Purcell and Cordelia Spaulding of Mankato, Kansas, Lelia Dettmer of Kensington, and Gladys Miller, Oklahoma City, Ok., all of whom are left with his wife, Myrtle Kelley, to mourn his departure. Mr. Kelley was the grandfather of ten grandchildren, namely: Mrs. Maybell Ahrens, Lavern, Dwane, Gerald Dean, Merlyn Gene and Donald Raymond Purcell, Betty Lee Dettmer, Joan Louise Spaulding, George Howard and Leonard Dean Miller; one great grandchild, Chrissie Eugene Ahrens.
..Mr. Kelly and family came to Kensington from Vernon county, Mo., in March, 1913, and has resided in this vicinity continuously since that time. He originally came to Kansas on account of his health and practically recovered from his trouble in this area. However, he has been in failing health the past five years, his death was sudden and unexpected and a great shock to the members of the family, that have not been near him the past few years; leaving a vacancy that never can be filled.
