Carl Henry Stahlheber, who was postmaster in Chula Vista for nearly 20 years, died March 21 in Scripps Memorial Hospital-Chula Vista. He was 77 years old.
Mr. Stahlheber, a native of Grand Chain, Ill., moved to Chula Vista with his family in 1924. He attended Sweetwater High School.
He served in the Army in Europe during World War II, gaining the rank of major. After the war, he joined the Army Reserve.
He was named acting postmaster in Chula Vista in 1953 and was appointed postmaster in 1954. He retired in 1972.
After retirement, he and his wife of 40 years, Janice, traveled in America and Europe. He also was active in community projects and in several organizations, including the Rotary Club, of which he was a past president.
Besides his wife, Mr. Stahlheber is survived by two daughters, Susan Alcorn of Chula Vista and Terry Daum of Escondido; five
grandchildren; a brother, Herman Stahlheber of Jamul, and a sister, Erma Higgs of Chula Vista.
There will be no formal services. Cremation is planned.
