Slidell, LA - Myrtice Bowen Dean, 94, died Monday, July 21, 2003, at the Guest House in Slidell, LA. She was formerly of Savannah, Decatur, and Raleigh, NC. She was born December 6, 1908 in Statesboro, and was the daughter of John Edwin Bowen and Fannie Mae Jones, descendent of several pioneer families of Bulloch County. During her youth she was a member of First Baptist Church of Statesboro and was a 1927 graduate of Statesboro High School. She spent most of her life in Savannah and was very active in Garden Clubs and at one time was President of the Garden Club Council. She was a current member of Sameria Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. In June, 1927, she represented Bulloch County in Savannah at the annual Water Carnival and was chosen the Queen of the Carnival. She was then sent to Wildwood, NJ, and represented the State of Georgia in the annual Baby Carnival in that city and chosen queen of the carnival.

Survivors: two daughters and sons-in-law, Myrtice D. and Charles J. Toshach of Columbia, SC, Frances D. and A.T. "Buck" McKinley of Slidell, LA; two granddaughters, Myrtice L. Toshach of Raleigh, NC, Sally T. and Mark Lewis of Fayetteville, NC; three grandsons, Charles J. and Debbie Toshach of Sanford, NC, Edward Dean and Leslie D. Toshach of Fletcher, NC, A.T. "Tom" McKinley of Jackson, MS; three great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Ms. Frances Dean, and Ms. Genevieve Dean Graddy of Hinesville; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2003 at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home Hodgson Memorial Chapel of Savannah.

Graveside Services: 10:30 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2003 at Flemington Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Flemington.
