Mrs. W.J. Butts of Phoenix, Miss Grace Williams and Miss Nettie Jones attended the funeral of Mrs. Minnie Allen Gates, age 75 years, who died in Watertown, Jefferson, New York. on Saturday 13 April 1940. She was born in Mexico, N.Y. and moved to Phoenix when a child, later moving onto a farm on the Smokey Hollow road where she lived for several years.
She leaves three daughters, Miss Alta Gates of Watertown, Miss Helen Gates of Clifton Springs and Miss Jessie E. Gates of Syracuse, a son Edmond Gates of Elbridge. The body was brought to the R.I. Madden funeral home on Tuesday 16 April where funeral services were largely attended by relatives, friends and old neighbors. Interment was made in Phoenix. She was married to Charles Gates of Phoenix over 40 years ago. He died about four years ago. Married 1900.
