John S. Davis, about 80 years old, one of the pioneer settlers of the Valley View community, died at his hoe there Thursday, according to word received here by Mrs. Dock Dudley, niece of the deceased. Mr. Davis was a carpenter by trade. He had been ill for some time and his death was not unexpected. He was well known and highly respected by scores of friends in Cooke county.
Besides his wife, Hattie Burks Davis, deceased is survived by three brothers and one sister, Will Davis of Gainesville, Tom Davis of Valley View, Bob Davis and a sister living in California. He was a member of the Woodman of The World.
