"Lafayette Cartee, one of Idaho's oldest pioneers, died at Boise, Sept. 2. For fourteen years lie held the position of surveyor general. Deceased was born at Syracuse, New York, Dec. 2, 1823.
He went to California in '49. The first of the now beautiful orchards in the capital of the state owe their origin to bis enterprise and intelligence.
Deceased leaves four children, a son and three daughters, alt married, to mourn bis death, and all who knew the aged pioneer will feel that a lovable old gentleman has gone to his final rest."

Gravesite Details

Oregon legislature, including two terms as speaker of the house. 1863, built Idaho's first sawmill. Appointed state's first Surveyor General. Built Boise's first greenhouse, 1871.
